Inspiration

For inspiration we looked into eclectic cafes, and metal tube structures and objects. We wanted to create contrast, to do so we utilized straight edges and curves in amalgamation to begin the ideation phase.

Research

Before we began with the idea generation phase, understanding the basic functionality aspects of a chair was important. To do this we studied various books on ergonomics and also used real time measurements from people of various body types to better understand what type of anthropometrics to look into.

Studying ergonomics and measuring actual measurements to corroborate our findings was key.

Prototype Generation

Once we were satisfied by the form and visual aesthetic of the chair we moved on to creating sketch models to hammer out issues which are not easy to spot on paper.

We built a 1:5 scale model and then a 1:1 model to get final dimensions. Thereafter we went on to create a CAD file for the metal manufacturer to create the first prototype's frame.

Scope

Ebb can be built into a family of furniture comprising of a side table and a high chair. This allows cafes and restaurants to create a more modular setting.
